Malakoff Independent School District is a 3A district on the southern end of Cedar Creek Lake. Currently, there are approximately 1,400 students enrolled. The District serves the areas of Malakoff, Tool, Star Harbor, Caney City, Payne Springs, and Mankin.

Malakoff ISD is composed of five campuses: Malakoff High School, Malakoff Middle School, Malakoff Elementary, Tool Elementary, and an alternative campus (Leo Orr). All of the schools are located in  Malakoff city limits with the exception of Tool Elementary.
