Malakoff ISD has been made aware of a nationwide social media trend known as the “Cat in the Hat” trend. The trend has involved social media posts containing alleged threats directed toward schools and students. Some of these posts have included altered or AI-generated images, references to particular schools or students, and language that may be threatening or concerning.
Malakoff ISD is aware of the situation and is working to monitor information that could potentially impact our students, staff, schools, or community. The safety of our students and employees is always our top priority. Any information regarding a possible threat will be taken seriously and handled in accordance with our established safety and security protocols.
We ask our parents and guardians to help reinforce an important message with your children: If they encounter a concerning post, message, photo, or video, they should not share, repost, or forward it. Instead, they should preserve the information and promptly notify a parent, school administrator, school resource officer, or another trusted adult. Even when shared as a joke or without harmful intent, threatening content can cause unnecessary alarm and may interfere with efforts by school officials and law enforcement to identify and assess the credibility of a report.
