MISD Special Programs

The Special Programs Department assists with coordinating and implementing various school district special programs and initiatives. We are committed to providing the support that affords the students the academic and decision-making skills vital for life beyond high school. Our goal is to ensure Malakoff ISD students in all special programs maximize their potential for academic and social/emotional success, career readiness, and post-secondary education and become responsible citizens in the community. We intend to ensure staff are trained to meet the needs of our students and are devoted to their success.

If you suspect your child may have a disability as outlined in the Texas Education Code, please get in touch with your child’s campus administrator. It is important to remember that the TEA requires public schools to use their eligibility criteria and not the medical criteria. Malakoff ISD offers students services for Section 504, Dyslexia, Gifted and Talented, and Special Education. All services are provided free of charge and eligibility criteria must be met before the student can receive services. For more information, please contact Laura Holcombe, Director of Special Populations (903.-489-1387).

Homeless Student Services

MISD identifies homeless students through the student residency questionnaire. Once identified through this form, the homeless liaison contacts the parent or adult student and completes an intake form. At that time Mrs. Holcombe shares resources with the family. Other resources can be obtained through the Parent Liaison, Cynthia Bray. More information can be found at the Texas Education for Homeless Children and Youth Website. If you have any questions please contact the district Homeless Liaison, Laura Holcombe.
